BNP Paribas Asset Management launches Global Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030

  • The Global Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030 supports BNPP AM’s ambition to strengthen long-term portfolio resilience and create value for clients.

  • BNPP AM will use its global scale across listed and alternative assets to address systemic risks, capture investment opportunities and support the real economy.

  • Four megatrends — Environment, Innovation, Demographics and Geopolitics — will guide the identification of emerging risks and opportunities.

  • Six core pillars will embed sustainability across investment research, due diligence, stewardship and governance.

London, 12 October 2026 – BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM), Europe’s third-largest asset manager by assets under management 1, has published its Global Sustainability Strategy 2026–2030.

Environmental pressures, technological innovation, demographic change and geopolitical shifts are reshaping companies, markets and economies. BNPP AM believes a robust sustainability approach is therefore essential to managing systemic risks, identifying opportunities and strengthening long-term portfolio resilience.

BNPP AM integrates sustainability into informed investment decision-making 2 and long-term value creation, while recognising the specific characteristics of each asset class. The strategy aims to deliver sustainable and resilient outcomes for clients and contribute positively to the real economy. It deepens BNPP AM’s analysis of systemic risks 3, strengthens engagement with issuers and policymakers, and expands investment capabilities across listed and alternative assets.

As one of the world’s ten largest asset managers, BNPP AM brings global scale across listed and alternative assets, with more than €1.7 trillion in assets under management and professionals in 35 countries 4.

A six-pillar roadmap to 2030

The strategy sets out six priorities for integrating sustainability across investment research, due diligence, governance and stewardship:

  • Forward-looking thematic research – align sustainability research more closely with investment and client needs; strengthen work on Nature, Just Transition and climate-risk frameworks; and finalise an evolved net-zero approach ahead of updated NZAM targets at the end of 2026.

  • Client-focused solutions – help clients navigate regulatory developments, including SFDR 2.0, from policy advocacy through to clear implementation; develop innovative and customised solutions focused on climate, decarbonisation and the environment; and use Europe’s largest Alternatives platform 5 and BNPP AM’s Natural Capital leadership to support sustainable forestry, carbon solutions, biodiversity outcomes and institutional resilience.

  • Robust ESG integration – combine qualitative and quantitative insights to identify long-term value drivers and risks that traditional financial analysis may not capture; roll out updated ESG and Net Zero methodologies in early 2027; and further develop proprietary analytical tools and dashboards, including AI-enabled capabilities.

  • Coordinated, in-depth stewardship – continue implementing market-leading 6 stewardship and voting policies; deepen coordination across asset classes and between stewardship and investment teams; and lead industry initiatives addressing systemic risks, including responsible and sustainable AI, hazardous chemicals, and climate mitigation and adaptation.

  • Clear exclusion standards – strengthen risk management and encourage issuers to improve their sustainability practices.

  • A culture of execution, education and engagement – support delivery through robust governance and transparent roadmaps, including for net-zero operations and human-rights issues; reinforce accountability through stronger entity- and fund-level reporting; and scale philanthropy, volunteering and sustainability education across the organisation.

Jane Ambachtsheer, Chief Sustainability Officer at BNPP AM, said:

“Sustainability is a key enabler of our strategy and investment philosophy. It helps us understand risk, identify opportunity and build resilient portfolios for clients over the long term. Looking to 2030, we will deepen our insight into systemic risks, strengthen stewardship and expand our capabilities across listed and alternative assets. Just as importantly, we will embed sustainability in our culture and day-to-day decisions, matching action with ambition and supporting the communities in which we operate through volunteering and partnerships.”
