BNP Paribas Asset Management (‘BNPP AM’) announces the appointment of Adam Kanzer as Head of Stewardship, Americas, within its Sustainability Centre. Based in New York, Adam joined on 19 October and reports to Helena Viñes Fiestas, BNPP AM’s Global Head of Sustainability Research and Policy.

In this newly-created role, Adam will lead BNPP AM’s stewardship activities in North America, including researching key corporate governance issues, undertaking direct and collaborative corporate engagement, and working with policymakers on key issues relating to sustainable finance and investment.

Adam joined from Domini Impact Investments in New York, where he was Managing Director of Corporate Engagement. He began his career as a Litigation Associate at New York law firm Cahill, Gordon & Reindel. Adam has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctoral degree in Law from Columbia Law School.

Jane Ambachtsheer, Global Head of Sustainability at BNP Paribas Asset Management, comments: “Adam Kanzer is a widely-recognised industry leader within US corporate engagement and public policy advocacy, with a wealth of experience in a broad range of ESG issues, including climate change, deforestation, labour standards, human rights and supply chain management. He has been an active member of a wide variety of ESG networks and organisations, and has been instrumental in helping companies to evolve their corporate practices in key areas. His expertise will be invaluable as we expand our sustainable capabilities globally and reinforce our commitment to ESG, and we are very pleased to welcome him to BNP Paribas Asset Management.”

About BNP Paribas Asset Management’s responsible investment approach

BNP Paribas Asset Management has been a major player in sustainable and responsible investment (SRI) since 2002. BNPP AM has implemented its own responsible investment policy, applying environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria to all its collective investments. It has also implemented BNP Paribas Group sector policies that ban investments in specific companies operating in controversial sectors. BNPP AM supplements this approach by systematically exercising its shareholder voting rights and through its participation in major organisations involved in these issues, thereby actively contributing to the public debate. BNPP AM has been a member of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) since 2003 and was a founding
signatory of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in 2006. BNPP AM was also one of the first mainstream investment managers to sign the Montreal Carbon Pledge, in May 2015, and to join the Portfolio Decarbonization Coalition (PDC), demonstrating its desire to take concrete action through SRI investment strategies, energy transition and climate preservation. As at 31 December 2017, BNPP AM managed nearly EUR 35 billion of assets in SRI strategies.
