BNP Paribas launches first responsible listed real estate ETF

Press releases

BNP Paribas Asset Management

BNP Paribas Asset Management (‘BNPP AM’) strengthens range of listed real ETFs with launch of first ETF focused on climate change.

  • BNP Paribas Easy FTSE EPRA/NAREIT Developed Europe ex UK Green UCITS ETF offers investors exposure to the most environmentally-friendly listed real estate companies in developed Europe (ex UK).
  • New ETF[1] will trade on Paris and Frankfurt stock exchanges from 14 November 2019.

The new fund strengthens BNPP AM’s ESG[2] offering, expanding its range to include responsible listed real estate by replicating the FTSE EPRA NAREIT Green indices.  Stock weights are based on sustainable real estate investment data, such as energy consumption and green certification.

Isabelle Bourcier, Head of Quantitative and Index Management at BNPP AM, comments: Listed real estate has been part of our range for over ten years, with over EUR 1 billion of assets under management.  Its availability within an ETF is greatly appreciated by investors, due to the benefits that it offers in terms of portfolio diversification, yield, protection against inflation risk and liquidity.  The launch of this fund enables our clients, who are increasingly sensitive to climate issues and the impact of their investments, to focus on the most environmentally-friendly listed companies in the real estate sector.

BNPP AM is one of the three largest ESG ETF providers in Europe and is a pioneer within a number of responsible investment themes, launching the first low carbon ETF (in 2008), the first index funds to exclude controversial weapons (in 2014) and the first circular economy ETF, in May this year.  The BNP Paribas Easy range of ETFs is also the first to have obtained the French government’s SRI label on three of its funds.  Almost a third of the assets managed by BNPP AM’s index management team are in responsible indices (EUR 4.5 billion[3] in SRI- and ESG-themed products themes).

The FTSE EPRA NAREIT Green indices are managed by FTSE International in partnership with the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA), a non-profit organisation responsible for promoting and developing the European real estate sector, and the National Real Estate Investment Trust Association (NAREIT), based in the United States.
