In the PRI’s latest Assessment Report, BNPP AM received the top A+ rating in five out of seven modules, including Strategy and Governance.
This achievement is the result of the full implementation of its Global Sustainability Strategy (GSS), published in March 2019. It comes as further recognition of BNPP AM’s leadership in sustainable investment, after achieving the highest rating among asset managers for its responsible investment strategy in ShareAction’s ‘Point of No Returns’ report published earlier this year.
BNPP AM is a pioneer in sustainable investment, having created its dedicated ESG research team as early as 2002 and becoming a founding signatory of the PRI in 2006.
Jane Ambachtsheer, Global Head of Sustainability, comments: “In 2019, we were proud to launch our Global Sustainability Strategy, which set out our ambition to be a future maker and put sustainability at the heart of what we do. We have taken numerous steps to ensure our approach is comprehensive and robust, including establishing an ESG Validation Committee to oversee the integration of ESG factors across our investment strategies. It is great to see these efforts reflected in our PRI Assessment Results. Global challenges – between the Covid pandemic, the climate crisis, and the struggle against inequality – intensify the need for investors to engage as future makers and we continue to evolve our approach across many facets of sustainable investment during 2020”.
Through its GSS, BNPP AM committed to apply sustainable investment across all asset classes and geographies. This involves applying four pillars of sustainable investment across its portfolios:
A fifth pillar is BNPP AM’s ‘Sustainable+’ range, which offers investors specialised ‘Enhanced ESG’, thematic and impact investing strategies. This range represents more than 10% of its AUM and makes BNPP AM the largest sustainable thematic manager in Europe*.
To achieve its ambitious strategy, BNPP AM significantly stepped up its sustainability related resources over. Since 2018, it has more than doubled the headcount in the Sustainability Centre, which now has 25 members, and created a dedicated network of 120+ ESG Champions across the firm. BNPP AM has embarked the entire company on this sustainable journey, training everyone from investments to global client group and support functions, encouraging them to incorporate sustainability into their work.
