In light of BNPP AM’s adherence to the global Stewardship Code (ICGN) and European (EFAMA) framework rather than to national Codes and our extensive reporting on stewardship activities at a global level, as well as our application of the EU Shareholders’ Rights Directive, BNPP AM did not apply in 2021 to become a signatory to the 2020 UK Stewardship Code.
Moreover, BNPP AM has long been committed to the principles of stewardship described in the 2020 UK Stewardship Code, as outlined in our Stewardship Policy and our Governance and Voting Policy. We will review our position in due course with regard to applying to become a signatory to the UK Stewardship Code.
Our investment teams monitor the financial performance and risks of the entities in which they invest on an ongoing basis. A wide variety of data sources and research providers is used to build a comprehensive view of the current and expected evolution of each entity’s revenues, profitability, cash flows and balance sheet. This analysis is supported by visits, meetings and other interactions with the senior management of the entities in which we invest. In these efforts, our investment teams are supported by our Sustainability Centre, Quantitative Research Group and risk teams.
It is important to note that as a component of our investment processes, analysts and portfolio managers integrate relevant ESG factors into their company, asset and sovereign evaluations and investment decision-making or financial advice. The process to integrate and embed ESG factors is guided by formal ESG Integration Guidelines, a set of common guidelines, and then by tailored approaches by asset class and/or investment strategy. Investment strategies are guided by an investment philosophy – a set of underlying beliefs that influence investment teams when they are managing their funds. Relevant ESG considerations have been systematically integrated into investment philosophies across BNPP AM to ensure consistency.
